Language
Cantonese is the primary language in Hong Kong, butEnglish is very widely used, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas.
Currency & Payment
The official currency is theHong Kong Dollar (HKD). Whilecredit cardsare accepted in most places, we strongly recommend carrying somecash, as sometraditional shops and restaurantsmay only accept cash payments.

Power Outlets & Voltage
Hong Kong uses theBritish standard plug (Type G)with avoltage of 220Vand afrequency of 50Hz. Travelers may need aplug adapterif their devices use a different plug type.
Transportation
MTR (Subway): TheMTR systemis the fastest and most efficient way to get around the city. It can be paid for usingcredit cards, Octopus cards, or cash at ticket machines.
Uber: Uber operates in Hong Kong and is a convenient alternative to taxis.
Taxi: Taxis are metered and widely available. Most acceptcash, and some also takeOctopus cards or credit cards.
Buses: Public buses are an affordable way to travel. However, some busesonly accept cash or Octopus cards—exact change is required when paying with cash.
Octopus Card: A rechargeable smart card used for public transport, taxis, and even some shops and restaurants. It is highly recommended for convenience.
