    A New Heavy Neutron-Rich Isotope239Pa

      Abstract:A new heavy neutron-rich isotope239Pa has been produced in the interaction of 50-MeV/u18O ions withnatU targets. Protactinium products were separated radiochemically from the complex mixture of the reaction products. The results observed from the decay of239Pa and its daughter,239U,show that the new heavy-rich isotope239Pa was synthesized and identified for the first time. The half-life of the239Pa was determined to be 106±30 min.
