Description

Abstract:

The 3DπPET scanner is a total-body, time-of-flight PET imaging system that uses silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) and a xenon-doped liquid argon (LAr) scintillator. With an axial field of view of 200 cm and nine double-sided concentricSiPMrings, the system is designed for high-resolution, whole-body imaging. Xenon doping enhancesLArscintillation by accelerating light emission, suppressing long-lived components, and shifting the emission spectrum, leading to improved timing resolution and detection efficiency. Developed as a medical imaging application within theDarkSidedark matter search program, the 3Dπsimulation framework is built on Geant4 and adapted from theDarkSidesoftware suite. I will present recently published performance results of the 3Dπscanner based on the NEMA NU 2–2018 standards, including spatial resolution, sensitivity, image quality, count rate, and timing performance. I’ll also provide a brief outlook on the project's future directions.

About the speaker:

Dr. Azam Zabihi has been a postdoctoral researcher atAstroCeNTin Warsaw, Poland, since September 2020, specializing in detector development, particle simulations, and medical imaging. She leads the 3DπPET project, which focuses on a cryogenic PET scanner based on xenon-doped liquid argon andSiPMs. Her background includes neutron radiation modeling, Geant4-based simulations, and contributions to the DarkSide-20k experiment.
