However\, the rise in simultaneous proton-proton collisions—f rom 60 to 200—poses challenges such as increased radiation damage and re duced reconstruction performance.\n\nTo address this\, the CMS detector is undergoing a major upgrade\, including the addition of the MIP Timing Det ector (MTD). This new layer will measure the time of flight of charged par ticles with a resolution of 30 ps at the start (60 ps at the end) of Phase 2. Such precision enables 4D collision reconstruction—adding time to sp atial coordinates—improving vertex identification in high pile-up condit ions by separating overlapping events in time. The central component\, the Barrel Timing Layer (BTL)\, will use LYSO:Ce scintillating crystals\, kno wn from medical imaging for their high light yield\, fast response\, and r adiation hardness.\n\n \n\nThe CMS Rome group led the LYSO procurement\, from vendor selection to quality control. A sample of LYSO production was characterized for optical\, mechanical\, and radiation-resistance properti es. With crystal production completed by end of 2024\, the crucial assembl y phase is now underway at four international centers\, including Peking U niversity (PKU). The collaboration here plays a key role in delivering thi s advanced timing technology for the HL-LHC era.\n\n \n\nAbout the speake r:\n\nI did my Ph.D. at Sapienza University of Rome\, graduating in 2022 w ith a thesis on the direct search for hadronic resonances in new final sta tes. Ath the same time\, I worked at the timing upgrade of the CMS electro magnetic calorimeter (ECAL) for the LHC Phase 2. In 2020 I was appointed C ooperation Associate at CERN\, . I then continued with Sapienza as a postd oc\, focusing my primary activities on LYSO crystals for MTD\, gradually b ecoming the reference person of the Rome lab for younger students and rese archers. Then\, my commitments with MTD expanded to software development a nd detector calibration\, for which I was appointed convenor in 2023. Nowa days\, I am excited to start a new postdoc with Peking University\, pursui ng and expanding my contribution to the MTD project.\n\n \n\n*请线下 参加报告的外单位老师、同学注册时填写个人信息(中 文姓名、身份证号码及手机号码),用于预约进入物理 学院。\nhttps://indico.ihep.ac.cn/event/25922/ LOCATION:B105 (CHEP) URL:https://indico.ihep.ac.cn/event/25922/ END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
