\begin{document}$ \pi^0 (\eta) f_1(1285) $\end{document} by assuming the \begin{document}$ f_1(1285) $\end{document} to be a molecular state of \begin{document}$ K^* \bar K - \bar K^* K $\end{document}. We use a framework in which a \begin{document}$ \pi^0 (\eta) f_1(1285) $\end{document} optical potential is obtained and subsequently used as the kernel of the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, following the standard method for the interaction of particles with nuclei. The optical potential is obtained using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations, in which a cluster, here the \begin{document}$ f_1(1285) $\end{document}, remains unchanged during the interaction, as appropriate for the present situation. We have obtained the scattering matrix for this system, as well as the scattering length, effective range, and correlation functions. This framework has been previously tested in the study of the \begin{document}$ p f_1(1285) $\end{document} interaction and has been shown to give results in agreement with recent experimental measurements of the \begin{document}$ p f_1(1285) $\end{document} correlation function. On the other hand, from this interaction we do not obtain clear signals for the \begin{document}$ \pi_1(1400) $\end{document} or \begin{document}$ \pi_1(1600) $\end{document}, nor for the \begin{document}$ \eta_1(1855) $\end{document} resonances, which in other approaches have been claimed to arise from the same dynamics. However, we obtain a structure in the \begin{document}$ \pi^0 f_1(1285) $\end{document} amplitude around \begin{document}$ 1500-1600 \ {\rm{ MeV}} $\end{document} and a strong cusp at the \begin{document}$ \eta f_1(1285) $\end{document} threshold of \begin{document}$ 1833 \ {\rm{ MeV}} $\end{document}."> Interaction and correlation functions for <i>πf</i>1(1285), <i>ηf</i>1(1285) -
